Follow us!

Follow us on our trip "abroad" within the Southwestern United States, in order to discover an entirely new sense of land and space!

Our course starts May 17 at MIAD to introduce the work of land artists such as Robert Smithson, Nancy Holt, and Michael Heizer; the uses of land by ancient native populations; desert sustainable living experiments; and monumental military/industrial projects. We will also begin to examine the interpretive role of The Center for Land Use Interpretation, an organization "dedicated to the increase and diffusion of information about how the nation's lands are apportioned, utilized, and perceived."

Our trip begins three days later starting in Utah, then heading to Nevada and Arizona to research and experience the varied geologic, economic, environmental, and conceptual transformations of these multifaceted lands. Upon return to MIAD, we'll begin a studio project inspired by all that we've learned, which will culminate in an exhibition during Fall semester 2013!

Watch this site for pictures, writings, video clips, and more! It all starts on May 20!
